Flower Shoes

For this assignment we were given the options of shooting flowers, jewelry, furniture, or a cold beverage.  I chose to shoot flowers with a fashion spin on it.  At first I was trying to figure out how to make something out of flowers and I knew I didn't have the time or budget to make a whole dress out of flowers so I decided to make a shoe with flowers.  Luckily for me it was valentines weekend so I had lots of flower options to choose from at the store.  I knew I wanted it to be very unrealistic with the moss and background selections.  It took a lot of time to glue the flowers onto the shoe and make sure they were placed correctly. The first shot it was I turned in for class and the second shot was just a product shot since I was so excited about my shoe I couldn't help myself.

Tiffany & Co.

Every year in the commercial concentration we do a joint project with a graphic design student.  We have to come up with a whole campaign for a company.  My Partner and I decided to do a campaign for Tiffany & Co.  The slogan for this campaign is, "What's your desire?"  These images do not have the graphics on them yet but here are some images I shot for the campaign.

Air!

When we got our new assignment last week our teacher looked at us and said shoot air.  That was all he said at first and everyone sat there in silence dumbfounded as to how can you possibly take a photo of air.  There was also a quote to go with it, "If you surrendered to the air, you could ride it." Toni Morrison. Special thanks to the lovely Britni Larue for modeling for me outside with the wind blowing really hard she was prefect for this shoot.

Gingerbread House

Last week we got an assignment to spend a day with someone at work.  I had been to the gingerbread house before and it is a cute little building that looks like a gingerbread house.  It is ran by this nice lady and she is the only person that works there so she is open from 7am-2pm Monday through Friday.  The food there is delicious and mostly made fresh every morning at 5am.  We had to make a two minute long video including still images and audio from the interview we had.  Here are a few of my favorite images from that day.

White Sweep

In our commercial advertising class this week we were told to set up a shoot where it was a clean white sweep with no editing just with the lighting techniques used.  Me and two friends set ours up and took turns shooting.  Here is one of the best shots I got of Jackie, we also had a little photo-booth session after that was lots of fun and very ridiculous.  These photos have no editing just a crop.

Hilda

Back in the fall we got an assignment to shoot something that has significantly changed your life.  We could do multi-media, still image, or three dimensional, I chose to do a collage of still images.  The person that has significantly changed my life is Hilda, she was like a grandmother to me.  I spent a lot of time at her beach and lake houses sometimes days up to weeks at a time.  Hilda taught me many things from learning how to swim, playing chinese checkers and just being a great person.  Hilda held me as a baby on the front church pew, took me to her hair appointments as a kid, and even let me do her hair.  I don't know where I would be without her today.  Sorry this took so long to post but here it is!

Sneak Peek!

Every year the photography department does a joint assignment with the graphic design program.  Me and my graphic design partner decided to do Tiffany's Jewelry.  We are doing a whole campaign including a magazine ad, poster, billboard, and a 15 second video.  I was shooting in the studio last night for the billboard, while a fellow photo student was walking around taking behind the scene shots.  Alyssa Barajas snapped this shot of my camera zoomed in on a piece of my billboard shot you can visit her blog at http://abarajasphoto.blogspot.com/ to see more of her work.  The full campaign will be coming soon!

Film Favorites!

This week I'm bringing back some oldies but goodies.  These are a few of my favorite shots I did in my first year at Randolph Community College.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Our first assignment after being gone for three months was dessert.  Since I tend to do more high contrast photographs I wanted to try something different.  I also wanted to use hard lighting so I came up with chocolate covered strawberries.  I dipped the strawberries myself in chocolate and then drizzled some white chocolate over one.  I wanted chocolate drizzle on my plate too so I asked a fellow classmate that was on a food photography based internship what the best way to do it was.  I was told that if I mixed a little water with chocolate syrup it would make the syrup smoother to drizzle across the plate, it worked great.  I also wanted the plate to look like it was one a sea of chocolate so I used some brown silk fabric to give that effect.

Stop Motion

When we finally returned to school we found out the school had purchased a few copies of the Dragon Stop Motion software.  So our teacher told us a little bit about it and then let us test it out for ourselves.  We were broken down into pods of six or seven people.  My pod was the last to go so we were challenged to come up with a better video than the other pods.  This video consist of 41 separate frames and only last 3 seconds.  So watch the video and see what you think.
